God wants us to know how to handle problems in our lives, and he has given us his Word to teach us what to do. At Crossview Baptist Church, we seek to know what God says in his Word and then live by it. How does God want us to initially respond when faced with problems? Philippians 4 gives beautiful instructions just for this!
First, calm yourself. God says, "Be careful for nothing..." It's very easy to work ourselves into a panic, even when the problem is real. God doesn't want us to ignore the problem! He just wants us to calm down and stop worrying.
Second, instead of worrying, let God know.
Direct the emotional energy spent worrying into talking to God! He already knows, but he still says, "...but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." God actually wants us to talk to him about our problems! Supplication is asking him to meet our needs and entreating him to provide! Just remember also that he wants to hear us giving thanks for all he has already done!
Third, accept his peace.
God promises, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." The idea of "keep" here is to "to guard, protect by a military guard, either to prevent hostile invasion, or to keep the inhabitants of a besieged city from flight." God promises to guard and protect our hearts and minds! Now that is peace in the midst of a storm!
Read Philippians 4:8-9 to learn how to enjoy the presence of the God of Peace in the midst of your storm!
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
